Nano coatings

Mavro International's line of nano coatings is called NITOGUARD®. Nano coatings are an innovative way for surface protection. These highly sophisticated protective coatings are special mainly because of the size of the particles that they are made of. Because of their extremely small size, the particles of the nano coating can penetrate in all of the smallest crevasses, cracks and holes of the substrate and “close” them. In this way no other particles or substances can get in contact with the surface and have effect on it.

These composite coatings systems made on the basis of nano technology are so durable and smooth that they create an oleophobic and hydrophobic effect on the surface, making it virtually indestructible and water and dirt repellent. These coatings are sometimes called liquid glass. If you would like to know why, continue reading below.

Why are nano coatings also called liquid glass?

Nano coatings are extremely resistant protective coatings that can be used to protect many different porous and non-porous surfaces. Because they create a colourless, solid, resistant layer on the surface of the material we want to protect, we sometimes call them liquid glass. The resulting coating is resistant to various substances and influencing factors. Liquid glass is a reference to the fact that coatings made with nanotechnology create a glass like surface that is hard and smooth, but also to the fact that elements similar to those that co0nstitute glass can be found in some types of nano coating technology.

What is the substrate protected against after applying the nano coating?

When nano protection is properly applied to the substrate, it will be protected against the following effects in the medium or long term (depending on the product and the substrate):

  • ● Protection against moisture
  • ● Protection against dust and other small particles
  • ● Oleophobic protection (repelling dirt)
  • ● Hydrophobic protection (repelling water and moisture)
  • ● Protection against weather influences
  • ● Protection against atmospheric pollution

Now, imagine how durable can a nano coating for wood make wooden surfaces or how a quality nano coating for glass can make a windshield or window repel water and prevent dirt from sticking to the surface. Of course there are also more “elastic” products such as the nano coating for fabric, which is made for protection of textile, which naturally can’t be stiff.

What materials can be protected with nano coatings?

  • ● The NITOGUARD® product line by Mavro International offers several specific products designed to protect different types of substrates. Below is a list of nano coatings that you can get in our online store:
  • ● Nano coating for fabric (for textile)
  • ● A special nano glass coating mad specifically for the coating of glass surfaces
  • ● Plastic nano coating that can be applied to most types of plastics such as PVC, polycarbonate and even plexiglass, ABS and AMMA.
  • ● Nano coating for stone which can be applied also on most other mineral surfaces
  • ● Nano coating for tiles is an ideal solution for tiles in the bathroom and other sanitary elements
  • ● Nano coating for wood is probably the best kind of protection of wooden materials

The main advantages of nano coatings compared to other protective coatings

As mentioned above, nano coatings protect most mineral and non-mineral surfaces from most mechanical and some types of chemical influences. The main difference between nano-technology coatings and other coatings made for protection of surfaces is that nano coatings penetrate in the smallest of holes on the surface. That means that they don’t simply cover the material, but they seal it completely – nothing can penetrate it and affect it. One other positive aspect of these kind of nano protective coatings is also the fact that – once applied correctly - they are so verry thin that they are virtually invisible, so they affect the look of the surface minimally if at all. A nano wood coating could increase the lifespan of wood immensely.

Nano coatings repel water

The substrate on which you will apply the nano coating will become hydrophobic, which means that it will literally repel water - when we pour water on a substrate treated with a nano coating by Mavro International, the water itself slips away from the substrate as soon as there is at least a minimum slope in order for the force gravity to work. But nano tech coatings also prevent grease and other types of stubborn dirt to stick to the surface. The surface you coat will be protected also against pollution from the environment, which is especially important in urban environments.

Nano coatings also make an oleophobic layer

It’s similar as it is with the repelling of water and other liquids. When the nano coating is applied to the substrate, it becomes oleophobic, which means that it repels dirt. Because dirt is often not in a liquid state, it does not necessarily slip away like water, but even if it accumulates on the surface because it "has nowhere else to go", it is extremely easy to clean because it does not stick to the base. The easy-to-clean-effect that a nano coating layer provides will make it unbelievably easy to clean the protected surface.

If you can't find the right nano coating for your needs…

If your issue is somewhat specific and you are not sure which kind of nano protection product that we provide is the best option for your situation, don’t hesitate contacting us. Most of our products can be used on multiple surfaces - for example our plastic nano coating, can be used on many smooth surfaces, or a nano wood coating can be used also on most wood composite materials - but there are some exceptions, so please ask us, if you are not sure. Don't forget to take a look at our offer of ceramic coatings, because you may find what you are looking for there, or take a look at all protective coatings in general.
